Help me noble ET geniuses

#1

Post by Metalcommand »

As an European the NF server is always empty during my day which led to a moment of weakness in which I commited an act of blasphemy by connecting to another server. Safe to say this server proceeded to download untold amounts of garbage and I quit trying to connect after 30 seconds. Now starting the game the starting screen is that typical Clan-advertising bullshit.

So my question is, how do I restore the situation back to normal? As in the starting screen is nearly completely default except for a bar through which you can directly connect to the NF server?

Thank you.

I should be working soon on an "ET cleaner" which will delete all .pk3 files from other servers from an ET installation. I need some inspiration though...

In the meantime, below is the list of .pk3 files used by the [>NF<] Server as of 13 June 2013. If you're feeling too impatient to cross check your files with the list, remember that you may delete all .pk3 files from the etmain directory except for mp_bin.pk3, pak0.pk3, pak1.pk3 and pak2.pk3. Of course, all maps will need to be downloaded again. From the jaymod directory you may delete all .pk3 files - [>NF<] only needs two .pk3 files there, which will be downloaded again when you connect to the server.

Before checking the .pk3 files in etmain or deleting them, I'd first try deleting all .pk3 files from jaymod, because that's where servers usually place custom files. Another tip is that custom .pk3 files will usually have strange names, like starting with a string of tilde characters (~).

This is getting peculiar. I deleted all the pk3 files within jaymod. No effect. Only pk3 that was in etmain was the ''nfserverpack etc.''. I don't even have the pk3's of the maps in ETmain directory although I have the maps as in don't have to download anymore when connecting.

Then I simply run ET as administrator. Default ET, connected via IP to NF and had to download the map Tiger which I connected to without downloading just few minutes before this. DC from server and the starting screen bach the way it should be. Start again as admin and screen still good. However if I don't run as administrator it's back to that putrid Clan garbage (damn you clan fag assassins). Ultimately it's not that big of a deal I can always just connect via IP and be fine but I don't like having shit on my computer that I don't want.

If all else fails and should I do a complete reinstall of the game would I keep my xp if I made a copy of my etkey (this the one with xp?) file?

When you logged in as Administrator and if you're using Windows 7, that dumb OS probably created a separate etmain directory in C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Roaming, where XXX must be one of these: All Users, Default or Public (or maybe even Administrator, not sure if the 7th abomination uses this). Anyway, your normal etmain should be in C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming. You should never install programs or store data in the default Windows directories. I recommend keeping a Games directory for your games, a Net directory for network related programs and so on, and most importantly, always create a separate partition for the operating system and another partition for everything else. But noobs will always be noobs...

Thank you Emperor! From the foul deeps of the appdata after deleting multiple pk3 files I found the cancerous Fag Assasins pk3 file that was infesting my ET. Now all is back the way it should be. Wunder-fucking-bar!
