ok folks i'm getting fed up with stupidity.
a player was banned for three days today because of this stupidity.
map tower. purpose stay on top of the tower longer than your opponent first to 500 points wins.
because BOTH SIDES NEED TO BE ON TOP OF THE TOWER TO SCORE
the TOP OF THE TOWER IS NOT A VALID ARTILLERY TARGET!!
do i make myself clear?

Re: i am not gonna put up with stupidity!!!
I disagree on both cases. In the Tower map case, sometimes the other team is too strong and calling artillery on the top of the tower may be a way to get them off. Actually, it might be justifiable to call artillery on any map even on paths the attacking team might have to go through, depending on thr situation. A classic example is when Axis are too strong on Fuel Dump and camp by the tank and the bridge.
In the Fuel Dump map, while building the east defenses is usually a bad idea, if the Allies notice that the Axis aren't protecting the east side, or are trying to SK the Allies, or whatever, a clever Allies engineer might get in through the east entrance and plant a couple of dynas. He might even have a medic backing him up, so this should be analyzed on a case by case basis.
I am also not gonna put up with stupidity, so:
The Tower: if artillery is being called on the top of the tower (or anywhere else for that matter) AND it's killing more teammates than enemies because the artillery call was a bad decision by the field ops, then it might be punishable. Otherwise, NOT.
Fuel Dump: you may curse at the engineer who built the east defenses all you want, but he CANNOT be punished in any way for doing so.
The two of you please take your PMS relief pills because I'm already extremely irritated today and this topic irritated me even more.

Re: i am not gonna put up with stupidity!!!
The number one defense mistake is pushing to far forward. In other words, getting to far away from defended objective.
On Fuel Dump for example, if someone builds east, then defense should concentrate on center and west, and stay closer to home.
With the east up, stay behind the main wall (eng & meds should stay very close to main bldg) and pray I show up with "Old Painless" to help.
Just like in real war, if your enemy does something unexpected or a comrade makes a mistake, you should complain to the ref.

You're mistaking refs for military/team commanders. Refs are there to enforce the server's rules, not to punish players for (supposedly) playing badly (as in being noobs).jakeson wrote:Just like in real war, if your enemy does something unexpected or a comrade makes a mistake, you should complain to the ref.

Re: i am not gonna put up with stupidity!!!
I wasn't being literal.
I should have said, "If your enemy does something unexpected or your comrade makes a mistake then you must Adapt, improvise and overcome". Which is what you would have to do in real war.
In the case of continually misplaced artillery barrages, you could suggest a more appropriate target. Just saying something like "Don't place arty there!" is less effective than naming a better target. If a ref's "suggestions" are not followed then punishment is appropriate.
