Changes to the [>NF<] ET server configuration and rules

#1

Post by Pedro-NF »

1 - Medics, field ops and soldiers now take 100% longer to recharge compared to the default recharge speeds. Previously they took 66% longer to recharge. Engineers now recharge 25% faster. Covert ops recharge at the default speed like before.

2 - Ammo and health pack cabinets are replenished 50% faster than the default speeds.

3 - Panzers are now affected by gravity, no longer moving on a straight line to the target.

4 - New hit modes now take into account various parts of the body: feet, legs, hands, arms, torso and head. Damage inflicted will vary depending on which part was hit. A different hitsound will play when specific parts are hit. Hitting head shots shouldn't be affected much, so if you're a good head shooter, you'll probably have no problems with the new hit modes. However, depending on the enemy's position, head shots may also be harder to score because any body part in the bullets path will block them. One of the main objectives of this change is to encourage players to develop their ability to hit head shots, and I've already noticed a clear improvement on that.

We are experimenting with hit modes 5 (advanced) and 6 (oriented) combined with different sizes for the torso hit box. The main differences between these two modes are:

a) on hit mode 5 the head hit box is a little bit taller, while on hit mode 6 it's very small, making headshots extremely hard to score, especially from a distance. Actually, I found it too small, so we are currently using hit mode 5.

b) hit boxes on hit mode 6 are even smaller and follow the character's animation more closely - for example, tilted body parts will generate tilted hit boxes, like the left leg hit box in the third image below:

Again, these are experimental changes and I might revert the server to the standard hit mode if the new ones don't work out well.

5 - Players who constantly leave the team (by going spectator or disconnecting) after matches have started will be banned. If a player wants to leave, he must do so before a match starts.

6 - Players who switch to the opposite team during a match will be banned, except if the other team is outnumbered AND much weaker.

7 - Regular players who don't bother to learn map objectives will be banned. We will be considering a regular player anyone who has reached 10K XP.

8 - Having fun on the server means making jokes, saying all kinds of funny stuff, etc. Having fun on the server does not include: jumping or standing on teammates playing dead or using mortars; jumping on dead teammates to gib them; pushing people off edges; etc. etc. etc. Players who do that will be banned.

9 - This one is not new but I'm going to mention it again anyway: team killing with a knife or a poison syringe will get the player banned immediately, without any warning.

10 - If you disagree with any of the above, please send an email to kim.jong-un@korea-dpr.com.

CHANGES TO THE SERVER CONFIGURATION AND RULES
(22 September 2013)

1 - No more XP and skills save. There will be a 30-minute grace period before XP and skills are reset, so players can reconnect if they disconnected for some reason without having to start upgrading from scratch again.

2 - Skills, battle sense and light weapons upgrade requirements are back to the default values, meaning players will level up much faster now, because the previous values were calculated taking XP save into account. Recharge times are also back to default levels. The values required to level up and to recharge might be tweaked in the future depending on how things work out in practice.

3 - Why is this good? The way it was before, anyone who had been playing on the server for a while always had a distinct advantage over new players, which put a lot of people off. Once players levelled everything up, gameplay was degraded in a lot of ways. The challenge of upgrading was gone, because once a player did it, he didn't have to bother anymore. Medics wouldn't bother handing out health packs or healing teammates because they didn't need to earn points to upgrade medic class skills anymore. Etc. etc. etc.

4 - Players are allowed to switch to the defending team at any time during a match, even if that leaves the attacking team outnumbered. However, the only case in which players may switch to the attacking team during a match is when that team is outnumbered and the switch will not leave the defending team outnumbered. Common sense and sportsmanship are expected from all players. We have never artificially forced team balance on the [>NF<] Server and never will.

5 - Player upgrades to level 1 (Citizen) will now be awarded by His Divine Grace, The Sacred Emperor, at His sole discretion, based on criteria like loyalty to the server, sportsmanship, obediance to T.S.E. and His Honorable Representatives, among others.

666 - I've saved the current state of the player database, so I can revert to the previous config should I determine that these changes didn't work out well.

To further emphasize that there is NO XP SAVE on the server, the grace period before a player's XP will be reset in case they need to disconnect for some reason has been reduced from 30 to 10 minutes. That should be more than enough time to download a map or to restart the game, the router or even the computer.
